Austria vape product registration

In Austria, the product notification process for e-cigarettes, refill containers, and other nicotine-containing products follows the standard EU Tobacco Products Directive (2014/40/EU) procedure, with a clearly defined timeline for public visibility.

Step 1: Prepare Your Submission

The XML file containing the product data in accordance with Extract (d) of Article 65 shall be prepared by collecting all necessary information and encoding it accordingly as WebXML in accordance with the EU-CEG schema. TPD PRO can help you do this:

  • Organize ingredients, compositions, and packaging.

  • Attach toxicological and emissions documentation.

  • Create XML documents that are verified by an XML validator in order to submit.

Step 2: Submit via eTrustEx

Once prepared, the XML files have to be sent to the EU Common Entry Gate (EU-CEG) via the secured eTrustEx platform. This includes:

  • Submitter profile

  • Attachments (PDFs)

  • Product submission XML.

If the files are not submitted in a proper sequence, the papers will be rejected.

Step 3: 6-Month Waiting Period

Following the submission, there is a six-month notification period that needs to expire before the (EU) law permits bringing the product to the market.

Step 4: Public Listing

At that point in time, the approved products will be listed in Austria’s official public registry (public register), hosted by AGES (Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety):
